Few things are more rewarding than raising children.
And few things are more demanding and more difficult!
As parents, we all want our children to do the best and be the best that they can be. Do better at school, be better behaved at home, and have lots of friends
Yet, many, if not most, kids experience difficulties at some point in their young lives.
Irritability, anxiety, and sadness can negatively impact a child's school, social, and home lives. And these difficulties can be compounded exponentially when a child has learning differences or is in need of special education.
Any number of factors can lead to education difficulties for children and their parents. Children and teens adjusting to a recent move, transitioning from a family loss, separation, or divorce, or who've experienced a traumatic event, can become anxious, withdrawn, or feel socially awkward, which in turn can lead to difficulties focusing on classes, completing assignments, and making the grades they need to have the best opportunities available in life.
You child is unique, and so are the difficulties you're experiencing. Shouldn't you find unique solutions to fit your needs and goals as parents?
While many counseling services exist for children, I provide parents the resources they need to work through the stress of raising children who are experiencing educational, social, or other behavioral issues.
In a safe, supportive, and confidential environment, you can discuss your concerns, fears, desires, and dreams for your children. These initial discussions are necessary in order for you to understand each other's points of view, better parent as a team, and present a "united front" when confronted with your child's behavior problems.
Doing this work has the added benefit of strengthening the bonds between you and your partner.
As you learn to communicate more openly and work together, you build a stronger foundation for ongoing mutual support, sharing, and reliance upon one another in other areas of your lives.
Children have an innocence that is all too often lost in the world. This innocencetheir seeing the world through open, unadulterated eyesis truly priceless and, just like children themselves, needs to be protected, nurtured, and given guidance.
But this can't be done unless your needs as parents are taken care of as well! And this is precisely where the parent counseling services I offer can help!
For more information about how parent counseling can help both you and your child, I encourage you to contact me with your questions or to schedule a free phone consultation. I may be reached by phone at 408-317-8440 or by e-mail at email@example.com. I look forward to hearing from you.
Help for Special Education Needs
If your child has been identified as needing special education, help is available.
Many obstacles face families raising children with special health or education needs. These obstacles often feel overwhelming and can drain the emotional and mental strength of those who are asked to be the strongest
You, the parents.
Depression and anger are two common emotions parents experience when confronted with the special education needs of their children. Therapy offers you a safe, supportive, and confidential environment to discuss your hopes, dreams, daily frustrations, and fears.
By discussing these emotions and thoughts in an open and supportive environment, isolation and resentment can be abated and a healthier support base created so you can focus on effectively meeting your child's needs.
For this reason alone, therapy can be an incredibly beneficial tool for helping you raise a child with learning or other disabilities.
But beyond offering much needed emotional support, I can help you locate the health and related resources and services you needcommunity resources, educational services, and long-term planning.
I have worked with numerous families going through similar experiences in my years as a counselor for the Family and Children Services Division of the Santa Clara County Department of Mental Health. And I can help you effectively navigate the special education and health care systems.
Many children have, or are at risk for, chronic physical, developmental, behavioral, or emotional conditions.
I can help you learn and develop coping skills, resolve any feelings of depression, anger, or guilt, and help your family deal with the demands required to raise a child with special needs.
Working together, you can discover and learn to deal with, any concerns or fears you may have and find new and more satisfying ways to live, love, and raise your child with hope and confidence!
For more information about how the services I offer can help you parent your special needs child, I encourage you to contact me with your questions or to schedule a free phone consultation.
